Pumkins in the Fog
Pumkins in the Fog is a fast-paced puzzle game created in just two days for a game jam. Players search a haunted graveyard for hidden pumpkins while avoiding ghosts that spawn throughout the area. Survival depends on activating strategically placed lamps: when a ghost enters a lamp's radius, the light destroys it and creates a safe route for continued exploration. The project focuses on readable risk and reward, encouraging players to plan their movement, manage safe spaces and search efficiently under pressure.
The gameplay design is built around a simple but tense decision loop: explore to locate pumpkins, identify nearby threats and choose when to activate a lamp. Ghosts turn familiar routes into changing hazards, while limited safe areas encourage players to balance speed with careful positioning. The controls and rules remain easy to understand so the challenge comes from reading the situation, anticipating ghost movement and making quick decisions under pressure.
The level design uses the graveyard as a compact space for exploration and escalating tension. Tombstones, paths and open areas shape visibility and movement, creating moments where players can either take a direct route or search for a safer approach. Lamp placement acts as both a navigation tool and a puzzle element, guiding players through the environment while giving each section a clear rhythm of discovery, danger and relief.
