Pokémon Fauna

Pokémon Fauna is a fan made Pokémon game currently in development using RPG Maker XP and Pokémon Essentials. The game is set in the region of Aseron, a land rich in biodiversity and home to many Pokémon species. Players will embark on a journey, capturing and training Pokémon, battling other trainers, uncovering the mysteries of the Aseron region and protecting all the species that inhabit it.

The game features Pokémon from Generations 1 to 9, with its own Pokédex; new mega evolutions and abilities. It also includes a mission system and bonds with various NPCs, where side stories will enrich the player's experience.

As a game design portfolio project, Pokémon Fauna brings together level design, character design and narrative design. Each route is built to reward curiosity through layered exploration, environmental clues and meaningful encounters, while characters have distinct motivations, relationships and arcs that evolve alongside the player's journey. The region's missions and Pokémon ecology are connected to its central themes, letting the story emerge through player choices, discoveries and the people they choose to trust.

The level design uses routes, towns and natural landmarks to create a clear sense of progression without limiting exploration. Optional paths, hidden areas and environmental details invite players to look closer, while encounters and changing traversal challenges keep each location mechanically distinct. The layout of each space is designed to support pacing: moments of discovery and tension give way to quieter areas where players can prepare, reflect and connect the world to the story.

In the character design, every major NPC is built around a recognizable goal, personal conflict and relationship to Aseron's biodiversity. Their visual silhouettes, dialogue and Pokémon partners reinforce who they are, making them readable at a glance while leaving room for development. Rivalries, alliances and bonds change over time, giving the player reasons to revisit characters and making the region feel shaped by people rather than populated by quest markers alone.
